Origins & effect:
St John's wort thrives on dry meadows and the fringes of forests in the mountains. Occasionally it is cultivated in gardens. The day when its gold yellow blossoms reach their full glory is celebrated locally as ‘Johanni’, which is traditionally on 21 June, three days after the summer solstice. It is then that they are best harvested and processed to maintain inner balance in a variety of areas.
